Sources and method

State fees

Filing fees, report fees, due dates and agent rules were compiled from each state’s statutes, fee schedules and forms, then re-read from the official pages in late September and October 2026. Where the two reads differed (for example, a fee that changed in 2026), we used the newer official figure and say so on the state page. Fees shown are the state’s standard fee for a domestic LLC; optional expedite and certified-copy fees are left out, and a few states charge a little more or less depending on whether you file online or on paper.

Biennial reports count as half their fee per year when we compare yearly costs.

Provider prices

Mainstay Filing: $199 a year (formation, registered agent, EIN application, annual reports), $149 a year for the registered agent alone, read on its pricing and FAQ pages on October 21, 2026. Other providers: read on each company’s own pricing pages on October 20, 2026.
